Nuclear power to maintain ‘significant role
“Taking in account rising world’s population and climate change tendencies, we understand that the nuclear power and energy is the only bridge before we create the next source of energy”, he said, adding that now the world has 444 reactors, while 65 more are under construction.

According to the European Nuclear Society, at end-February, there are 442 nuclear power plants existing across the world and 66 are under construction. The main reason to develop nuclear power, said Osaisai, is to diversify a supply mix now dominated by natural gas.
Under the agreement signed between two countries in 1993, Russian Federation supplies reactor fuel to Ukraine and takes spent fuel rods for storage and reprocessing.
“There are problems related to Ukraine’s payments”, he said, adding that the first shipment of nuclear waste for disposal has been postponed.
The three-day VIII International Forum ATOMEXPO 2016, held at Gostiny Dvor Exhibition Centre, gathers a record number of 4,500 delegates from 55 countries. “It is well-known that it contributes quite a chunk of global electricity”, Osaisai noted.
Osaisai said it is a lifetime opportunity, adding that Nigeria will take advantage of the clean energy and generate the much needed electricity.
Generating power from thermal and other sources have become unreliable for Ghana to meet industrial needs.
“We in IAEA are helping to create this necessary infrastructure in developing countries in order to operate a safe and sustainable nuclear power for many, many years”.
He added that nuclear energy is environmentally friendly and its use would allow Nigeria to conserve other energy sources.
However, in April 2015, Nigeria began talks with Russia’s state-owned Rosatom to collaborate on the design, construction and operation of four nuclear power plants by 2035, the first of which will be in operation by 2025.

“Yes we want to establish a working relationship with the team here in Moscow because in Kenya we have a target of at least 2017 to have started producing Nuclear energy”. The increasing urbanization will greatly increase the demand for electricity.
