Memorial Day Rain Possible Later in the Afternoon, Evening

Scattered storms will be with us each afternoon and evening for the rest of the week and into this weekend. A mostly sunny sky will blanket the region, although, a handful of storms (some with the potential to be strong to severe) will be possible along and east of Interstate 25.

Friday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 9am. Any showers or storms managing to develop will be slow-moving, so expect pockets of locally heavy rain.

WEEKEND: Hot temperatures in many areas within New Mexico as afternoon highs near 90° in parts of northwest & central NM.

The storms are unlikely to be as widespread as they were Monday, when some locations saw in excess of 4 inches of rain. High temperatures Friday will be in the lower 90s.

Daytime heating mixed with the cold front will provide lift for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Tomorrow will finally see the low-level circulation that was associated with Bonnie move out of North Carolina. High temperature Tuesday will be in the upper 80s. As this happens, warmer and more humid air will be drawn northward through the Southeast and into the Carolinas.

The overnight will be partly cloudy and warm after storms diminish. Saturday and Sunday will be a little cooler with more clouds and scattered showers and storms. It’s still exactly unclear when Bonnie would make landfall, but Sunday morning or afternoon is a possibility, said CNN meteorologist Jennifer Varian.
