Intel ‘Kaby Lake’ processors set for release later this year
Intel has officially announced its next generation of advanced processors that it’s calling Kaby Lake.

More than 400 devices with Intel’s upcoming chip design will reach the market, said Navin Shenoy, corporate vice president and general manager for Intel’s Client Computing Group.
Kaby Lake will succeed the current crop of 6th Generation Core processors code-named Skylake. Additionally, Intel also announced that the company’s upcoming entry-level Apollo Lake processors will also enter production alongside the new Kaby Lake processors.
In addition to its Apollo Lake processor, the LIVA Z on display at Computex has 2 DDR3 SODIMM slots for memory, support for up to 64GB of eMMC storage plus an M.2 slot for a solid state drive, HDMI, Mini DisplayPort, and mic and headphone jacks, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, three USB 3.0 ports, and a USB 3.0 Type-C port.
The successor to Kaby Lake is a chip code-named Cannonlake, which will be made using the 10-nm process and be available for PCs in the second half of 2017. Kaby Lake chips will be a third beat in this rhythm, coming after the launch of first Broadwell, and then Skylake 14nm chips.
The Transformer 3, which has a 12.6-inch screen, gives some insight into what top-line Kaby Lake PCs may look like. Manufacturing issues caused Intel to delay a move to the 10-nm process, and it added Kaby Lake to continue delivering yearly chip upgrades.
But as well as promising its most impressive affordable chips, Intel also showcased its most powerful desktop processors in history at this year’s event. The device has a 13-megapixel camera and can hold an SSD up to 512GB in capacity, and up to 8GB RAM.
Intel also mentioned a lower-end architecture named “Apollo Lake”, which is supposed to take the place of the Cherry Trail-based Celerons and Pentiums that ship in lower-end systems.
The latest chips have been fabricated on the 14nm Goldmont architecture, which will only mean improved Instructions Per Cycle performance and improved GPU performance as well.
