The six players vying for the final four spots are Madrid’s Sergio Ramos, Isco Alarcon and Lucas Vazquez, as well as Atletico’s Juanfran, Jorge “Koke” Resurreccion and Saul Niguez.

“I wanted to balance the squad and I think I’ve chosen the best”.

Seven players from the Madrid clubs had been included in the preliminary list released two weeks ago, but Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal was ruled out of the tournament because of a muscle injury sustained in the final in Milan.

Alvaro Morata and Nolito each scored twice as Spain, European champions in 2008 and 2012, warmed up for their title defence with a 6-1 win over South Korea in Salzburg.

Vicente del Bosque says his Spain side are favourites to claim a third straight European Championships.

“Winning this championship three times in a row is a complicated challenge, but we will try”, said Silva as the tourism ambassador for Gran Canaria’s Anfi del Mar resort. “We know we can count on him”.

Goal machine Aritz Aduriz, 35, is the oldest player in the squad.

The Real and Atletico players will meet up with the rest of the squad on Saturday and be available for the final warm-up game against Georgia in Getafe on June 7.
