Kershaw denied win but Gonzalez lifts Dodgers over Mets, 4-2
Adrian Gonzalez broke a ninth-inning tie with a two-run single off a suddenly struggling Familia, sending Los Angeles past NY 4-2 on Sunday night. He was credited with the win when Curtis Granderson homered leading off the bottom of the inning.

Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run single in the ninth inning, pulling the rug over Mets closer Jeurys Familia’s eyes and helping erase a questionable decision made by manager Dave Roberts in a 4-2 win by the Dodgers on Sunday night at Citi Field in NY.
Despite the no-decision, Kershaw was again otherworldly.
Kershaw reached the 300-strikeout mark for the first time last season, finishing the year at 301.
No surprise to NY fans, it was Public Enemy No. 1, Chase Utley, who scored the first run of the game for the Dodgers. What he did get was ejected in the top of the third inning. Howie Kendrick and Corey Seager also connected, all after Syndergaard was gone.
A night that began with the New York Mets celebrating the 1986 World Series championship team ended with Chase Utley reminding fans why they’ll be haunted by him for the next 30 years – and beyond.
The incident seemed to bring to a boiling point the conflict between the Mets and Utley, who broke shortstop Ruben Tejada’s leg on a hard slide in the playoffs previous year. I guess you can call this the “ennh, close enough” ancillary to the Utley rule. The Dodgers got a run on a fielder’s choice in the third and another in the fifth thanks to an RBI single from Gonzalez, making it a 2-0 lead for the visitors.
The home run Kershaw allowed to Asdrubal Cabrera in the sixth inning represented the obvious low-point of his May, as it was the only home run he allowed in the calendar month. Last year Familia was lights out against the Dodgers and in this series alone he allowed six runs to them. Then after a few seasons they move Urias to the rotation.
Kershaw got a no-decision because of the freakish move by his manager and finished the game surrendering two runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. He gives up a leadoff single, two walks and a single to Gonzalez to give the lead right back to the Dodgers 4-2. Maeda yielded two hits, both singles in the first, and stopped his three-game losing streak. Jansen came on in the bottom half of the ninth and retired the side in order to pick up his 15th save of the season.
Clayton Kershaw: 2 runs on 4 hits with 10 strikeouts in 7.2 IP. After getting ahead of Dioner Navarro 0-2, the pinch hitter worked the count full, Familia missing badly with his next three pitches. He had 10 strikeouts and no walks in the game.
“There’s an unmeasurable quality that he brings to a clubhouse on the day he pitches”, said catcher A.J. Ellis.

Left-hander Alex Wood threw a bullpen Saturday and is scheduled to start Monday at the Chicago Cubs.
But since last season’s July 31 trade deadline, Familia has been almost automatic for the New York Mets.
