Although no immediate announcement was made, outfielder Mac Williamson wasn t in the lineup for Triple-A Sacramento at El Paso and there was a flight that could get him to Atlanta in time for Thursday s noon EDT first pitch.
Pence left Wednesday’s game with the Braves after appearing to aggravate his hamstring injury, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Giants: RHP Sergio Romo (strained flexor) had a “little setback”, according to manager Bruce Bochy, and he will be shut down for three to five days. Pence had a more positive outlook.
“That’s probably the best I’ve felt all year”, Wisler said. “I’m able to walk on it pretty good right now”.
Pence returned to the lineup on Saturday after not starting in six straight games with a right hamstring injury.
“You know what?” Bochy said.
3B Matt Duffy did not start Tuesday’s game because of a bruised left wrist suffered when struck by a pitch in Monday’s game. Pence, who is tied for the team lead with seven homers and leads the Giants with 36 RBIs, grabbed the back of his leg as he leaned over.
Wisler gave up three runs, four hits and two walks in seven-plus innings.
Chris Withrow (1-1) pitched a ideal 11th inning for Atlanta to pick up the win. He faced the minimum batters in his seven innings and allowed only one hit. Garcia moved to third when Nick Markakis singled to center field and scored the tying run on Casilla’s wild pitch to Kelly Johnson.
Bumgarner (6-2, 2.12 ERA) had a 4.50 ERA through his first three outings but hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in any of the eight since, including his last defeat April 20.
Suarez had an even more direct role in the Giants’ scoring rally in the sixth.
In the field: A day after getting smoked on the wrist by a 96 miles per hour fastball, Duffy played third base in the late innings. After San Francisco loaded the bases, pinch hitter Matt Duffy lifted a sacrifice fly to right.
Braves: 2B Gordon Beckham left the game with a left hamstring strain after hitting into a double play in the sixth. His single up the middle with two outs in the sixth represented the Giants first hit off talented Braves right-hander Matt Wisler since Denard Span led off the game with a single.
Perez has had a weird but successful-to-date season, which first saw him being shuttled to and from Gwinnett while lasting just a few innings in each start, and then improving in fits and starts after he was called up to take the traded Jhoulys Chacin’s spot in the rotation.
Braves: Rookie RHP Aaron Blair (0-3, 6.67) has a tough matchup in his search for his first win.
