At least 35 people were arrested Friday as confrontations between protesters and authorities boiled over following a rally from the presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in San Diego, police said.

San Diego is considered a binational city by many who live and work on opposite sides of the border, and about a third of the city’s population is Latino.

Authorities said 12 people were arrested, including one for trying to climb over a railing, but there was no major violence or mass arrests as at Trump rallies in other cities.

Officers in riot gear ordered the crowd of about 1,000 protesters to disperse, shortly after the rally ended. He is campaigning ahead of California’s June 7 primary.

Trump is already on the road again, this time heading to California where he will speak in Fresno and San Diego on Friday.

The presumptive Republican nominee shared a video Thursday on Instagram that compiled numerous high-profile politicians and political pundits who said Trump would never win the Republican nomination. Trump said, trailing off.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Trump rally if he didn’t say something questionable about Mexicans, so true to form the alleged billionaire stated “What happens is the judge, who happens to be, we believe, Mexican, which is great”.

Earlier in the Central Valley, several hundred demonstrators chanted, held signs and marched around a downtown Fresno arena where the presumptive Republican presidential nominee spoke to supporters.

A wall of police officers following protestors down Harbor Drive were forced to take them down and handcuff them.

Although Trump notes that these protesters tried to disrupt his event, the situation in San Diego did not actually escalate until after Trump left the area. The surprising part is that it began as a peaceful demonstration, with immigrants disapproving of Donald Trump’s discourse.

“I will wait to debate the first place finisher in the Democratic Party, probably Crooked Hillary Clinton”, Trump said in a statement.
