Murray encouraged by manner of win over Gasquet

“Whether I do or not, we’ll have to wait and see”, said a confident Murray on Wednesday after defeating ninth-seeded Richard Gasquet 5-7, 7-6 (3), 6-0, 6-2 to reach a third successive French Open semi-final.

The 29-year-old admitted after Wednesday’s win that he was pushed hard at times against Gasquet and concedes he will face an even tougher task against Wawrinka.

“We have a particular situation because of the weather, so I am going to try to get as much rest as possible and not get distracted by too many things outside”, he said after beating Roberto Bautista Agut in four sets over two days to make the last eight.

Defending champion Williams is yet to begin her own against 18th seed Elina Svitolina. I came in not having lost on the clay and played some really good tennis.

Gasquet is depending on his home Parisian crowd to help take him to the Semi-Finals.

But overuse of the drop shot cost the Scot as Gasquet, the last French player in the singles draw, reeled off five games in a row to take the first set. “I didn’t play my best in the third round and I really wanted to come out and do a lot better and prove that I can do better than that”.

Britain’s Andy Murray celebrates winning the quarterfinal match of the French Open tennis tournament against France’s Richard Gasquet at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris, France, Wednesday, June 1, 2016.

Serena had a splendid 2015 winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. “Yeah, just give everything I’ve got the next few days”.

Radwanska said: “I’m just so surprised and angry that we have to play in the rain”.

In the other half of the draw, rain delays mean the quarter-finals between Novak Djokovic and Tomas Berdych, and David Goffin and Dominic Thiem, will be played on Thursday.

“He’s obviously been playing great tennis here over the last couple of years”.

After completing his victory, Djokovic played to the crowd at Court Philippe Chatrier, first cajoling a ball boy to join him in bowing for the spectators, then donning a yellow rain hat handed to him by Fabrice Santoro, a former player who conducted the post-match interview. The Swiss player wasted no time in claiming Murray was the favorite.

Murray will contest a spot in the Roland Garros final with defending champion Stan Wawrinka, who tore through his last eight encounter with Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets. I respect them. I’m not frightened.

She will meet unseeded Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens next.

After losing in the U.S. Open semifinals a year ago, and the Australian Open final in January, Serena is trying once more to pull even with Steffi Graf’s Open-era mark of 22 major titles. “But the decisions were not, I think, the best”.

Putintseva upset No12 seed Carla Suarez Navarro 7-5, 7-5 in a two-hour two-minute battle.

Later, the first women’s semifinal matchup was established, with No. 4 Garbine Muguruza of Spain ending the surprising run of 108th-ranked American Shelby Rogers 7-5, 6-3, and 2011 U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur eliminating Tsvetana Pironkova 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). “But I have nothing to lose, and I will do my best to win”.
