By this logic, what matters is less the overall opening weekend, and more what follows after it.

Despite bombing in the domestic box office, “Alice Through the Looking Glass” managed to top the Chinese box office after earning $27.1 million upon release.

(DIS) stock is declining by 1.29% to $99 in late-morning trading on Tuesday, as its sequel “Alice Through The Looking Glass” brought in just $34.2 million over the four-day weekend in the US and Canada.

“Alice Through the Looking Glass” scored 34 out of 100 on the review aggregator website Metacritic.

The movie has already pulled in record numbers for its opening weekend run, with an impressive $101.5 million dollar haul from worldwide markets.

The Disney’s big-budget film lagged far behind Tim Burton’s previous one “Alice in Wonderland”, which opened to a stunning 116 million dollars in spring 2010.

Justin Chang in Variety mused: “Alice Through the Looking Glass is a movie for anyone who ever skimmed a passage of Lewis Carroll and thought, ‘This is great, but it could use a bit more ‘Terminator'”.

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-Men: Apocalypse. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. For “X-Men: Apocalypse” it is expected to rake in around $76 million in that same period. The sequel is set in the 1980s and finds the team of mutant heroes battling an all-powerful villain from the ancient world (Oscar Isaac).

“We’re very happy with this result as we introduce new characters in the X-Men universe”, Fox’ Chris Aronson said in a press release. Some fans called for a boycott of Alice Through the Looking Glass. They join the voices of Alan Rickman (Blue Caterpillar), Stephen Fry (Cheshire Cat), Michael Sheen (White Rabbit) and Timothy Spall (Bayard). He is also the English voice of Zak in “Zak McKracken: Between Time and Space”.

Alice Kingsleigh (Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Alice 2, received dismal reviews across the board.

Meanwhile, The Angry Birds Movie falls from one to three with an estimated $18.7 million (£12.8 million), and Captain America: Civil War and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising round out the new top five, respectively. The Jungle Book (with a sequel already in the works) earned about $9 million more, and Zootopia, now in its 12th week in theaters, earned another $1.25 million.
