Padres rout Mariners after being ripped by team executive

“It was definitely fun”. This past winter, they lost their best player in 2015, Justin Upton, to free agency.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher James Shields looks to the scoreboard as he walks to the clubhouse after he was pulled in the third inning of a baseball game against the Seattle Mariners, Tuesday, May 31, 2016, in Seattle.
Robinson Cano then hit a three-run homer in the first inning that provided Paxton with an early cushion.
Five of the runs that inning were unearned after Paxton overthrew second trying for a force play on a comebacker.
The Padres went into Wednesday night’s game against Seattle last in the NL West at 20-33, 12 games behind San Francisco.
Shields recorded two easy outs in the second, but quickly unraveled, allowing singles to SS Luis Sardinas and CF Nori Aoki and a walk to LF Seth Smith. “We’ve got guys from six different countries”, Servais said. Cano walked with the bases loaded to force in one run and Nelson Cruz followed with a two-run single that included a lengthy review whether Smith was out at home plate. They scored six runs – more runs than they scored in 42 of 53 games this season – and were well on their way to the second-most productive night of the season.
Perhaps the Padres were aided by a change of venue with the Vedder Cup moving back to Petco Park for the final two games of the series. He lasted just four innings and gave up eight runs four earned in a no-decision against Oakland on May 4.
Kyle Seager tallied a season-high and career-high-tying four hits in tonight’s game (7x; last: September 9, 2015 vs. Texas)… is hitting.
Padres: RHP Tyson Ross (right shoulder inflammation), who hasn’t pitched since opening day, played catch.
But the next hitter, Wil Myers, took advantage of a 0-2 fastball that was left up in the zone, driving it over the wall in right field for a solo homer to cut it to 3-1.
Padres: LHP Christian Friedrick (1-1) will make his fourth start since being called up from Triple-A El Paso.
