Andrews will play Ms Julie, the director of the Wellspring Centre for the Performing Arts and give workshops to the puppet children in the school’s theatre and advice backstage in the “greenroom”, helped by her assistant Gus, played by Giullian Gioiello. The streaming video service provider said that Greenies were a diverse group of kids who are mesmerized by all that the arts and creativity has to offer.
Legendary actress Julie Andrews has announced the worldwide premiere of her show aimed at preschoolers titled Julie’s Greenroom.
“It’s been an incredible treat to work with Julie on this project”, said Andy Yeatman, Director of Global Kids Content at Netflix.
Each episode will feature a guest star who engages the puppet kids in a specific area of the performing arts.
Julie on Netflix? Err…
Hamilton and Steve Sauer will executive produce the series alongside Andrews, with Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford serving as executive producers for the The Jim Henson Company.
Netflix also notes that “most” episodes will include an original song, though it’s unclear whether Andrews herself will be singing. The original puppet characters were built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
A new children’s show starring Dame Julie Andrews has been commissioned by Netflix.
The Greenies will create an original show as part of the series, which will feature mime, music, dance, improv and circus. “I am thrilled to be partnering with my daughter and long time co-author, Emma, to bring this show to life along with our co-creator, Judy Rothman-Rofė”, Andrews said in a statement. Emmy-winning actor and writer Joey Mazzarino will co-produce and direct, while Tom Keniston will produce.
