Acer To Launch Intel Skylake Laptops With Fingerprint Readers At Computex 2016

“Both Switch V10 and Switch One systems are based on quad-core Intel Atom processors (four Airmont cores, 2 MB cache, 1.44 GHz and higher clock-rates, built-in Gen8 Intel HD Graphics core with 12 or 16 execution units, 2 W TDP, etc.) and will feature 10” multi-touch displays with IPS panels and unknown resolution (given the prices, it is likely 1366×768). The Switch One 10 will also come with a fingerprint sensor.

The tech company unveiled the two upcoming notebooks ahead of Computex Taipei.

Unlike more sophisticated crossovers like Microsoft’s Surface Pro/Surface Book series, the Acer Switch One 10 is being marketed as an alternative to Chromebooks, as opposed to an alternative to laptops.

Exact specifications for the 2-in-1 devices weren’t immediately available, but low-cost laptops usually have flash storage up to 64GB and under 4GB of RAM. It also boasts a dual-band MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi, as well as a fingerprint reader, letting users sign in securely via Windows Hello. The positions can be properly done by opening, folding and repositioning the device.

Sales of hybrid 2-in-1 hybrid computers are growing rapidly these days, particularly in well-developed countries.

The Switch One 10 is remarkable mainly because of its very cheap price point. The device will also be available in 32 GB and 64 GB of storage.

The US$199 Switch One 10 is one of a few touchscreen hybrids priced under $200.

The hybrids, also known as 2-in-1 devices, are 10-inch tablets that can be latched on to a keyboard dock to become a laptop.

The Switch V 10 comes with metal covers in different colors such as black, white, red, or a couple of shades of blue, and will be beefed up with USB-C. The battery life of these devices will be approximately 8 to 9 hours, which hopefully would be sufficient for a student to complete his day’s work, without needing to charge it in between. However, reports say that their availability will begin in July for North America.
