Amber Heard & Johnny Depp Are Getting Divorced

The actress cited “irreconcilable differences” as she filed for divorce in Los Angeles Superior Court. Depp and Heard didn’t have any children together, but they shared two dogs, Pistol and Boo, who became the center of a scandal after the stars smuggled them into Australia previous year.

She is seeking spousal support from the Oscar-nominated actor. The couple are not thought to have put a pre-nuptial agreement in place before they tied the knot in February 2015. But in turn, 52-year-old Johnny has filed his own legal documents asking the judge to reject his estranged wife’s request for maintenance.

Depp and Heard made global headlines a year ago when they ran into legal trouble for bringing their Yorkshire terriers, Pistol and Boo, into Australia as Depp was filming the latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie, breaching the country’s tight biosecurity laws.

At least Depp’s latest movie, Alice Through the Looking Glass, opens Friday.

Amber Heard celebrated her 30th birthday without Johnny Depp – weeks before she filed for a divorce.

In Australia last month, Heard admitted falsifying her immigration arrival card and was placed on a A$1,000 (S$990) one-month good-behaviour bond.

The pair, who do not have children together, married in February past year after co-starring in the 2011 film The Rum Diary. At the time, Depp was still with his partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, and he later stated that his relationship with Heard did not begin until after he and Paradis separated in 2012. The couple released an awkward video apology, which went viral.

The couple grabbed a lot of media attention after being prosecuted for illegally smuggling dogs into Australia.
