Aussie daredevil Robbie Maddison ‘surfs’ with dirt bike

The water bike project was something that I had known about for a while, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect Maddo to ride it in the famous Teahuo’po wave in Tahiti.

Dressed from head to toe in his motocross gear, Maddison hurtles past them on his dirt bike and onto a wave, creating a scene that is now being shared around the world. The video has been making waves to extreme sports enthusiasts.

A day later he attempted the stunt on his bike after preparing for the attempt for two years.

“I had a sickening feeling that this might be the one that kills me”, Maddison said.

Maddison knows a thing or two about near-death experiences.

The bike was also fitted with a custom airbag that Maddison could deploy to stop the bike from sinking if he hit trouble.

Maddison persisted and switched to the less crowded Tahitian waves of Papara.

Maddison’s stunt was performed at Teahupoo in Tahiti, known for its powerful surf breaks, and quickly received accolades from professional surfers. I was up on the Jet Ski right in front of where the lip was hitting the water, parallel to the reef-it was just so epic.

“You can’t see that when the wave broke right behind me, I honestly thought that might be the end of my life”.

The remarkable career has seen him take on the role of stunt double for movie star Daniel Craig in the film Skyfall.
