Lester Library preps for summer reading program

This allows the children to have a better opportunity to participate in the activities. This movie will be open to adults age 18 and older.

This summer, babies, kids and teens are invited to the Santa Monica Public Library to read, jump, dance, move, create, and earn prizes for the amount of time they spend reading (or being read to). The program’s reading list features 60 popular titles for both kids and teens, including “Jacky Ha-Ha”, “Public School Superhero”, “House of Robots”, “Treasure Hunters”, “I Funny” and more from Patterson’s famed “Middle School” book series. High school students who complete the program will receive a $10 gift card from Wegmans. Read!” is the teen program, and for adults, the program is called “Exercise Your Mind…

“Grown-ups look forward to summer as much as kids do”, said library administrator Jill Prouty. Read to Me, Please!, for those from birth to pre-K, will read or listen to 25 books. This year we welcome pre-readers as well as independent readers. The first book, “Steelheart”, will be provided for the participants when they register.

The Fairfield Bay Library is kicking off their Summer Reading Program with ‘On Your Mark, Get Set, READ!’.

Children’s Librarian Shiela M. Keaise, along with Children’s Services Assistants Samantha Brinson and Derrian Teal and volunteers, will host children, ages infant-12, throughout the summer. This program is to encourage reading through the summer months, not just the school year.

A team from the Frontier Cultural Museum will demonstrate how to play games from frontier times at Hopkins Green on June 22. For adults, they include events 7-9 p.m. Saturday and July 9 at The Game Annex, No. 117 at 4705 Illinois Road.

“We won’t have any outside readers, it will all be done by our staff”, Lassiter said. Mooney said on June 13 at 6 p.m., the library is hosting a program on how to date and take care of photographs.

Adams also said the program is a great way to bring children to the library and might be the only time of year that some children can get to the library.

Winter Park Elementary is one of 11 New Hanover County schools that will open library doors to students this summer. Courtesy
