Di Matteo named as new Aston Villa manager
Villa will be playing in the Championship next season, after their relegation from the Premier League this year.

He won two FA Cups, a League Cup and a UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup while at Stamford Bridge and returned to Chelsea as assistant manager to Andre Villas-Boas in 2011, stepping up as interim manager when the Portuguese was sacked in March 2012.
Champions League winning manager Roberto Di Matteo has been officially unveiled as the new boss of recently relegated Aston Villa, the club has confirmed via their official website this morning.
Di Matteo is the Villans’ third manager in two seasons.
Dr Tony Xia’s takeover is yet to receive Football League approval but the Chinese businessman is thought to have influenced the decision to appoint Di Matteo over Nigel Pearson.
Steve Clarke, former West Brom and Schalke boss, also looks to be a great appointment having previously worked with Jose Mourinho as assistant manager for three years.
A formal announcement had been expected since earlier in the week after reports revealed that very productive talks between Di Matteo and Villa chairman Steven Hollis took place last week and carried into the weekend. Like Di Matteo, the 52-year-old Scot also had some success with the Baggies, taking them to their highest Premier League finish of eighth place in 2013.

Xia recently bought Villa from U.S. businessman Randy Lerner, who had been looking to sell the club since 2014.
