Maryam Nawaz said that the Prime Minister was in good condition after the surgery, which continued for around four and half hours.

On the global front, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond too expressed best wishes for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s successful operation and speedy recovery. The prime minister’s family also visited him in the ICU. Prime Minister’s health means Pakistan’s health, he mentioned.

She said the surgery was conducted around 5 pm.

Maryam had earlier given updates on the surgery on social media.

The surgery was performed for “perforation of the heart”, a complication from an earlier procedure in 2011, his daughter said earlier.

Praying for the wellbeing and speedy recovery of the prime minister, Justice Chaudhry said the 1973 Constitution was silent on dealing with the PM’s absence from the country.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani were among several world leaders who wished Mr Sharif ahead of the surgery.

Hasina hoped Sharif “will come round soon”.

However, Maryam said that it will take at least three weeks before the prime minister can return home.
