California campus shooter had ‘kill list’

The former UCLA graduate student who shot dead a professor at the school then killed himself began his rampage by killing his estranged wife at her Minnesota home, police and the victim’s sister said. Citing police sources the report said that the list included the names of Klug, another UCLA professor and a woman who lived close to Sarkar’s apartment.

UCLA students and faculty were due to gather on Friday for another day of tributes to the slain professor, William Klug, 39.

At Sarkar’s apartment building in St. Paul, the only people who would open their doors Thursday said they didn’t know their neighbor and that police had been there Wednesday night.

Klug’s colleagues and friends described him as a kind, devoted family man and teacher who didn’t appear to have conflicts with anyone.

“Bill was so much more than my soul mate”, his wife, Mary Elise Klug, said in a statement.

Klug said as a result, he had “learned to be more open minded, but not in a relativistic way”.

“We believe that he went to kill two faculty from UCLA”.

The second professor is reported on the “Kill List” to be safe but no details were offered by the police about the dead woman – her identity, her nationality or when she was killed and where. A spokesman there said she was enrolled as a part-time student from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2012.

Los Angeles police chief- Charlie Beck- said that in a note in his pocket, it was mentioned that his cat be looked after and also led police to his home in Minessota where the “kill list” was found. In a now-deleted blog post on March 10, he alleged that Klug stole his computer code and gave it to another student. “It’s hard to tell because they…it’s that old saying ‘only the good die young.’ And for him it really strikes home because he was a really great guy”, Alcala said. “Be careful about whom you trust”, he wrote.

Beck said that “a dispute over intellectual property” was tied to the UCLA shooting, which put the campus on lockdown for hours on Wednesday.

Authorities believe Sarkar drove to Los Angeles in the past few days with two handguns he legally bought in Minnesota.

Sarkar was listed on a website for Klug’s research group at UCLA, and an online abstract of his dissertation listed Klug as his adviser.

Indian student killed UCLA professor and committed suicide. Students crammed for next week’s tests while on sunny lawns and in libraries at the University of California, Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The path to the campus shooting death of a UCLA professor began almost 2,000 miles away in Minnesota.

“My name is Mainak Sarkar”.

This is one of so many questions raised by the actions of 38-year-old Mainak Sarkar at UCLA.

The shooting triggered a huge police response until authorities determined there was no continuing threat.
