Three varieties of Clif Bars are being recalled by the manufacturer out of concerns of possible listeria contamination.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The recalled bars contain sunflower kernels made by SunOpta, which are believed to be contaminated.
The retail products manufactured by SunOpta and affected by this new recall expansion were sold in clear, printed plastic packages and are marked with Best By Dates located on the front or back of the packages.

The CFIA confirms that there have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product and the recall was triggered following a food safety investigation. Symptoms include severe headache, high fever, nausea, stiffness, abdominal pain and diarrhea. More details about the recall are available on the FDA site.
Listeria is particularly unsafe for older people, newborns and pregnant women.
