Windows 10 now powers approximately 292 million systems, according to Computerworld’s calculations, which used Net Applications’ numbers and Microsoft’s oft-cited claim that 1.5 billion machines run Windows.
In mid-March – around three months later than originally planned – Microsoft announced the start of its Windows 10 Mobile upgrades for many of its Windows Phone 8.1 handsets.
The Register report is inaccurate.
With the big boost in user share, Windows 10 will easily surpass the 20% mark by the end of June, as Computerworld forecast four weeks ago. Microsoft’s success can be determined by the fact that the company has been coming out with such a large number of mobile phone devices in such a short time. But its biometric health data could still be leveraged in some other way, and Microsoft appears intent on doing more with such user information. It’s not a flattering look for Microsoft to push Windows 10 on people so aggressively, especially when there are plenty of good reasons to stay on older versions of Windows.
