Residents brace for more flooding as Texas river rises
Parts of the Houston area, where eight people were killed by floods that hit in April, could see as much as 10 inches of rain over the coming days, the NWS said.

Residents of the southeast might be thinking of building an ark as relentless flooding inundates states from Texas to SC.
After days of torrential rain, the river is expected to crest at a record level of 53-feet. The Brazos River Authority says every single one of the 11 reservoirs fed by the swollen river are already 95 to 100 percent full. The threat of severe weather has lessened over the long Memorial Day holiday for many places, though Tropical Depression Bonnie continued to bring rain and wind to North and SC.
There have been reports of others missing in Travis County, and crews will resume searching Tuesday, but Block said there’s no confirmation yet of additional missing people.
“It is necessary to start moving water ASAP; The flooding upstream and the potential for more rain has made this emergent”, the department said on Facebook. The bodies of two missing motorists were found Saturday in separate parts of the county, according to Judge John Brieden.
In Hood County, southwest of Fort Worth, several roads were washed out and authorities performed about 15 water rescues, including from homes and vehicles, said Sheriff Roger Deeds.
The National Weather Service predicts that 4-5 more inches of rain are expected around Houston through the weekend.
The deluge of rain that’s pummeled southeastern Texas has sent rivers surging to levels not seen in decades.
Further south in Rosenberg, about 150 households had been evacuated by Monday, and city officials were co-ordinating with the county’s office of emergency management to have rescue boats in place, according to spokeswoman Jenny Pavlovich.
One piece of good news was that the heaviest rain remained north and northwest of Houston (as indicated in the map above) so they avoided some major flood problems this time.

Tropical Depression Bonnie reached the SC coast early Sunday, bringing heavy rain and rough tides to an area packed with tourists for the Memorial Day weekend. In the Hill Country region that encompasses both San Antonio and Austin, shallow limestone bedrock impedes the flow of water, resulting in rapid runoff that quickly overflows narrow creek beds.
