Brandon Boykin: Chip Kelly has trouble relating with players

Bradford, who will earn $12.9 million this season, is part of a high-profile quarterback group that includes Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow and Matt Barkley. So the real surprise was the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers, who weren’t expected to make any major moves in August after yet another quiet offseason that was mostly about locking up their franchise figure-heads, were the ones to acquire Boykin for a fifth-round pick that could become a fourth-round pick.

Boykin drove to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe and was in pads with the Steelers Sunday. He said players suspected a “hint of racism” in Kelly’s personnel decisions.

You told The Philadelphia Inquirer in April that Chip doesn’t “like or respect stars”. But Kelly has his mind set on the kind of physical characteristics he wants out of certain positions.

“Mychael Kendricks isn’t going anywhere”, Chip Kelly said when he addressed the media Sunday.

Boykin is a clear upgrade, but the question is whether it is enough. It’s an area where Boykin could immediately contribute, as he slides into a group headed by Cortez Allen, William Gay and Antwon Blake.

What do you think of the Steelers trade for cornerback Brandon Boykin, Steeler Nation?

In eight years, seven different guys have led Kelly’s teams in receptions, according to Ford. Everybody wanted to get a look at the new unit and especially first round pick Nelson Agholor. He’s also done some returning, primarly on kickoffs.

The Eagles have apparently been shopping Boykin around the last few months as Around the NFL’s Kevin Patra believes the trade signifies the confidence they have in rookies Eric Rowe and JaCorey Shepherd.

I’m not a betting man, but my guess would be either Golson or Scheuerman will be in the news today. And I felt like some times during the OTAs, the brace restricted me a little bit. “You’re capable of making plays just like the other 10 guys”. Boykin was a consistent in the slot the past 2 years so his production may not easily be replaced.

Add Brandon Boykin to the list of ex-Eagles bitter about the way Chip Kelly relates to African-American players.

“Right now he’s gonna go until we see how his knee responds”, Kelly said.

“I’m not saying he’s racist in any way”.

“Now what Chip doesn’t want is for something to happen that you don’t like and you cause a big scene in front of the team”, Jenkins said. “Gamers excel once you allow them to naturally be who they’re, and in my expertise that hasn’t been necessary to him, however you guys have heard this earlier than me”.

Boykin is not the first Eagle’s player to report discomfort, but is Kelly’s problem about race or power? The first three years of his career were spent with the Eagles where he saw substantial playing time, but he was never made a starter.
