Syria warplane crashes, killing and wounding many

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that more than 100 fighters have been killed in three days of intense clashes in the Sahl al-Ghab region of central Hama province.

Residents said the fighter jet went down in the commercial district of Ariha, a rebel-held town south of Idlib, after it bombed the center.

Ariha was a government stronghold up until it was overrun by insurgents in late May on the back of a series of government losses in the northwest of the country.

A spokesman for the Local Coordination Committees in the area said the warplane crashed in a busy market place. The LCC said 27 people were killed and many others were wounded. “Five of them have not been identified”, said Abdel Rahman, citing medical officials and residents inside the town. The group also listed 55 wounded, including nine women. The Observatory & the Local Coordination Committees stated in that at the time of the crash, the town was under attack by the air force of embattled Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Sham News Network posted photos of the aftermath of the plane crash, showing destroyed buildings and a ravaged square covered with debris and broken concrete. The video appeared actual & corresponded to different Related Press reporting of the events.

The war jet crashed over a popular marketplace in the town of Ariha in the countryside of Idlib, much of which has fallen recently to the so-called Jaish al-Fateh, or the Conquer Army, an alliance of several Jihadi groups, mainly the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front.
