“They have been directed to remove the tents immediately”, he said, adding that the ground in Sector 6 had been earmarked for the dharna and restriction has been imposed on gathering of five or more persons within 500 metres of all national and state highways, railway lines and stations and connecting roads in the district.

The ABJAAS had been demanding ten percent quota in government jobs and educational institutions in the state.

“This ban would be effective till further orders”, a state government spokesman said in Chandigarh today.

The AIJASS leader, Hawa Singh Sangawan, has assured that the protests will remain peaceful. Haryana Additional Chief Secretary of Home department Ram Niwas has said that till now 55 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed in sensitive areas, which include companies of CRPF, BSF, RAF and SSB.

A special round-the-clock control room has been set up in Chandigarh to monitor the situation, he said. “We are fully prepared to deal with the situation”, Additional Director General of Police Mohammad Akil said.

Given the security arrangements put in place by the state government ahead of proposed agitation by Jats from tomorrow, traders feel that there is not going to be any incident of violence or arson as witnessed during previous pro-quota Jat stir in February this year. They accused the Haryana government of having an indifferent attitude towards their demand for reservation, saying it was not serious about the issue.

The former UP DGP, in a letter to the state government, has claimed that the Haryana DGP had checked the original audio-video and it had been found that such a statement as carried in the report was made by another INLD leader Digvijay Chautala and not Dushyant Chautala.

“Police and district administration would maintain law and order and safety of the people would be ensured”.
