Modi woos businessmen in Qatar, says India ‘a land of opportunity’

The Indian Premier cited HH the Emir Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s praise of Indian workers’ commitment and discipline at work, during the recent visit of HH the Emir to India.
Modi was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at the Emiri Diwan, the seat of power of Qatar’s ruler, that was followed by official bilateral talks between the two leaders.
Among the various sectors that were being viewed, include railways, agro-processing, solar energy as also defence and general manufacturing, he said.
“India’s 800 million youth are its biggest strength”.
Promising to improve the ease of business in India, PM told the business leaders that he will address the bottlenecks identified by them.
Modi arrived on Saturday and met with Indian laborers that evening, telling them he is aware of the conditions they face in Qatar.
The Indian diaspora of over 6,30,000 Indians comprise the largest expatriate community in Qatar and are engaged in a wide spectrum of professions, including medicine; engineering; education, finance; banking; business; media and labour.
A number of reputed Indian companies particularly in construction, infrastructure and IT sector have operations here.

Earlier, Qatar’s Minister of Trade & Economy Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani welcomed Modi and sought more intensive economic engagement with India.
The bilateral trade for the financial year 2014-15 stood at United States dollars 15.67 billion, of which India’s exports accounted for almost USD 1 billion.
“Our projects for Smart Cities, metros, urban waste management etc are geared towards upgrading quality of life of people”, Modi added. The balance of trade is heavily in favour of Qatar. It is also one of India’s key sources of crude oil.
