Calabasas Fire: 516 Acres Burned, Containment at 75%
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Authorities cautiously lifted some evacuation orders, but they warned serious challenges remained Sunday as crews in jagged terrain protected homes and worked to stop the progress of a brush fire that torched the populated hills northwest of Los Angeles.

Residents of Calabasas were being allowed back into their homes, many of which were without electricity.
The blaze, dubbed the Old Fire, was 30 percent contained by early Sunday morning, Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Keith Mora said.
One home was damaged from fire retardant and one commercial building was destroyed, fire officials said.
A brush fire at Valley Circle Boulevard and Kittridge Street is part of a fire that was reported at Mulholland Boulevard and Old Topanga Canyon Road and Mulholland Highway in Calabasas, says Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Tripp said air crews dropped fire retardant “so the fire did not escape and get down into Topanga Canyon”.

He said three firefighters were injured.
The fire had burned 516 acres by sunrise and was 30 per cent contained, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
– Multiple fires broke out Saturday in the greater Los Angeles area just miles apart in Calabasas and West Hills. The blaze has ignited trees and brush within yards of million-dollar homes – the L.A. suburb is noted for its wealthy residents, gated neighborhoods and celebrity sightings.
Calabasas and the nearby Santa Monica Mountains are no stranger to wildfires – the area has experienced many unsafe blazes over the years.
The City of Calabasas ordered horses and large animals to be evacuated to Pierce College, while small animals, like dogs and cats, were to be evacuated to the Agoura Animal Shelter.

Firefighters have been drawing water from Lake Calabasas, a lake in a private development, and dropping the water on hot spots via helicopter. Earlier in the evening, though, officials had said about 350 structures were threatened.
