Earlier, the network expressed its desire to run the series for at least 10 seasons, but it would seem that HBO has already made up its mind to shorten that goal, Cinema Blend reports.

Lombardo said he’d prefer having more and would certainly be practically offered to a prequel towards the account of the incredible fight for the Iron Throne within the missing territory of Westeros, based upon George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” text books.

Expressing his concerns about the popular sitcom, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said the Emmy-award winning fantasy series Game of Thrones might terminate after Season 8, reported NBC. “The question is how much beyond the seventh season, we’re going to do”. Obviously, we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven. It would really depend fully for us on what they wanted to do. I feel you are proper, there’s monumental storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if George and Dan and David determine they need to deal with that.

About Jon Snow’s fate following the season five finale, Lombardo insisted, “Dead is dead is dead”. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. “We haven’t had any conversations about [a new series] at this point”, said Lombardo. The next season is being filmed and one of the lead actresses Emilia Clarke noted that the upcoming season will be “epic” with loads of “shocking” moments. “He be dead”, Lombardo says. “Everything I’ve seen, heard and read, (indicates) Jon Snow is indeed dead”.
