Mr Parkes added: “We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in this area of Weybread between Saturday May 28 and today and would ask anyone who can help to call us”.
Searches and enquiries are ongoing to locate her.
“We are now carrying out a number of enquiries to find out exactly what has happened and would continue to ask anyone with information to come forward”.
Mr Parkes would not reveal what injuries had been suffered by Mr Stuart, but confirmed that he had been murdered and that police were investigating possible motives.
Meanwhile the suspect is to be returned to Suffolk from Leicester to face questions from detectives, police said.
A murder investigation has been launched after a body believed to be a missing pensioner was found near his home. We are absolutely committed to finding Sylvia and this remains a priority for us.
Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Parkes, from Suffolk Police, told a news conference in Weybread that the body was found fully clothed about nine metres from the Stuarts’ home.
Police are still searching for 69-year-old Mrs Stuart. The search was extended to the surrounding area in the afternoon and the body was later found in nearby woodland.
Det Chief Supt Parkes previously said the couple were last seen at a “normal family event” at their home.
The Stuarts, described as line dancing enthusiasts, are believed to have one daughter and one grandchild.
“There is a huge amount of work going on in terms of seeing if Sylvia is maybe in the woods, but we have got a whole a raft of enquiries to try and locate her”.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 01473 782000 or 101, quoting CAD number 49 of Friday June 3.
