Warriors leave LeBron’s Cavaliers in need of major adjustments

As the Warriors showed in their victory over Cleveland in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, this is a crew that can win on a night when Curry and Klay Thompson aren’t scoring.

The Cavaliers were supposed to be better prepared for a Finals rematch with the Warriors as they entered healthier and more talented than the hobbling team that lost 4-2 a year ago, but they have been destroyed in the opening two contests. Though Love was certainly not playing his best basketball in the series thus far, his absence was felt by Cleveland, robbing them of an offensive weapon on a night when nothing went their way. We know what we’re going to get from the Big 3.

Andrew Bogut had four blocks in the first 7:15 and received a standing ovation when he came out at 3:50 in the first then went to the locker room late in the quarter. The Cavaliers will try to even things up after suffering a blowout loss at the hands of the Warriors in Game 1.

“You probably have a better awareness of the consequences if you lose, you know, will we ever get back there?’ So I think our guys having won one already, that’s a big boost for us”.

LeBron James had team highs with 19 points, nine assists and eight rebounds for the Cavaliers, who were held to 72 points twice in the 2008 playoffs, including in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals at Boston. Forward Lebron James had an overall solid performance, and was only one assist shy of a triple-double. Stephen Curry often gets trapped above the arc, but this time Klay Thompson, he of the playoff 3-point shooting record, was getting that occasional treatment.

After the dispiriting 104-89 defeat, the Cavaliers spoke about the need for injecting that movement and energy back into their offence while also acknowledging that the defending champions make that task exceedingly hard to execute. The Warriors toppled their regular-season mark of 72 wins this year, going 73-9. Without Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, James led the Cavaliers to two wins in the series. That would match the record set by the 1985-86 and 1986-87 Boston Celtics. And I would say we’re confident that we can beat anybody. Combined, the Splash Brothers had just 20 points, a fairly anemic number compared to the numbers put up by the team during the course of the season. Curry came out of the game with three fouls at that point, however, and the Cavaliers took advantage to chip away at their deficit.
