Young crushed a first pitch fastball over the left field wall to get the Red Sox on the board.

Roberto Osuna, who relieved Estrada with nobody out in the ninth, got pinch hitter Marco Hernandez to strike out swinging with the tying run on second to end the game.

Estrada was looking to become the first pitcher since Seattle’s Chris Bosio (April 22, 1993) to no-hit the Red Sox, and the first pitcher since Detroit’s Jim Bunning (July 20, 1958) to toss nine hitless innings against Boston at Fenway Park.

– Boston actually threatened Estrada in the first inning when he walked the first two batters he faced.

The Jays are now sitting in third place in the American League East and are two-and-a-half games back of Boston for first place. Darwin Barney continued his offensive spree with his third homer of the year, Edwin Encarnacion added a two-run shot and Russell Martin contributed with a solo shot, his fourth since May 25.

The right-hander took a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Boston Red Sox before Chris Young hit an 88 miles per hour cutter over the Green Monster.

Prior to that, the Red Sox had hit several balls on the nose but at Toronto fielders. Estrada walked Hanley Ramirez leading off the second, but has retired 15 straight.

Centre fielder Kevin Pillar made a nice over-the-shoulder catch on Travis Shaw’s deep drive in the fourth. Barney’s went off a light stanchion and Encarnacion hit his into the last row of seats. Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson (jammed right thumb) returned to the lineup Sunday as the designated hitter.

Jon Lester, then with Boston, pitched the most recent no-hitter at Fenway Park, against Kansas City on May 19, 2008.

Righthander Marco Estrada (2.43 ERA) makes the start for the Blue Jays.

– Heath Hembree was excellent in relief of Rodriguez, striking out four and allowing just one baserunner via a walk in 2 1/3 innings of work.
