Clinton takes early edge in Puerto Rico Democratic primary
The party said Clinton won 84.2 percent of the vote, while Bernie Sanders earned 12.2 percent.

“We’re going to have a very contentious campaign”, Clinton said late Sunday night at a rally in the California capital, “because I’m going to point out at every single moment that I can why I believe the Republican nominee should never get near the White House”.
Both Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Sanders spent Sunday in California, the biggest prize among the five states voting Tuesday. He noted that in addition to the seven pledged delegates, all four of the Virgin Islands’ superdelegates are now backing Clinton. Then on Sunday, Puerto Rico Democrats hold their primary, with 60 delegates at stake.
Only seven delegates were at stake in Saturday’s contest against rival Bernie Sanders, a US senator from Vermont.
Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, argued on Sunday he could persuade numerous more than 500 super-delegates who back Clinton to reverse course and vote for him, adding that it would be “not quite accurate” for Clinton to claim victory by counting super-delegates before the convention. When including superdelegates, her lead over Mr. Sanders is substantial: 2,355 to 1,562.
That included a stop at a charity “Pedal on the Pier” fundraiser, where Sanders told people riding on stationary bikes that the USA should have “an economy that works for all people, not just the one percent”. Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton led Vermont Sen. Sanders has said he won’t support a bill now under consideration that would help the island avoid more defaults on its debt obligations, saying he will introduce his own proposal.
FRESNO, Calif. (AP) – Hillary Clinton’s savage takedown of Donald Trump in her recent foreign policy speech has her supporters fired up.
But the former secretary of state also hit Sanders, a Democratic socialist, for voting against a 2007 comprehensive immigration reform bill.
Roberto Prats, head of the party in Puerto Rico, said he was “appalled” at the “preposterous” accusations.
While Puerto Rican residents cannot vote in the general election, the island’s politics could reverberate into the fall campaign. “I’m taking action as a result of the economic crisis”.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports another resolution that was adopted urges Wisconsin’s 10 super delegates to vote in proportion to Wisconsin’s primary results. She now stands at 2,354 total delegates, according to CNN’s tally, just 29 shy of the number needed for victory. “I think his words and his deeds disqualify him from being president”, Clinton said in Oxnard, Calif., on Saturday.
At the state convention in Minnesota on Saturday, Democrats voted to divide their national convention superdelegates to reflect the popular vote, the St. Paul Pioneer-Press reported. Clinching the nomination will launch an unprecedented battle between a candidate seeking to break the glass ceiling and become the country’s first female commander in chief, and a provocative billionaire businessman and political neophyte who has changed the face of American campaigning.

The other states holding nominating contests on June 7 are New Jersey, New Mexico, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.
