Cowabunga, dude! Turtles outmuscle X-Men at United States box office

The figures are particularly regrettable for bosses at Paramount Studios because the budget for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows was $10 million (£7 million) higher than the previous franchise film, with Paramount Studios executives having allotted $135 million (£93.8 million) for the second instalment’s production budget. “I have a lot of fun making these movies, but it’s not a representation of my innermost being.” she said. Females made up 81 percent of the audience, while 53 percent of the audience was under 35.

Finishing last among the week’s new wide releases, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping pulled in an estimated $4.6 million, coming in slightly below modest expectations at No. 8.

The TMNT sequel, meanwhile, will likely top out at around $36 million in its opening weekend. The Johnny Depp sequel brought in just $10.7 million for a domestic total of just $50.8 million and a worldwide gross of only $176.4 million. The Andy Samberg-fronted comedy sees the former Saturday Night Live cast member and his Lonely Island band members (Jorma Taccone, Akiva Schaffer) lampooning the music industry with a critically well-received, Judd Apatow-produced mockumentary featuring appearances by P!nk, Sarah Silverman, and more.

Oversees, Alice 2 earned another $30.9 million for a foreign total of $125.5 million and global cume of $176.4 million.
