Apple no longer reigns as king smartphone vendor in China
Apple made waves earlier in the year when it shipped the most smartphones in China during the first quarter.

Apple’s fall to the 3 place this quarter can be examined as it only aims at a specific group of customers who are looking only for performance and premium quality but Xiaomi and Huawei concentrate on each and every customer and try to merge performance, quality and looks in a cheaper way.
Overall, the Chinese market remained the biggest market in the world, but contracted slightly, as shipments slid two per cent year-on-year, but were up four per cent on the preceding quarter. Chinese Smartphone makers Xiaomi and Huawei have pushed US technology giant Apple into third place in this second quarter, as mentioned by ET. “Xiaomi is under huge pressure to maintain its top position in the quarters to come”.
The Chinese manufacturer had a 15.9 per cent share of all smartphone sales in the region, closely followed by Huawei with 15.7 per cent, relegating Apple to third.
“Samsung has stabilised volumes in the high-end, but its lower-tier mobile phones continue to face intense competition from rivals such as Huawei in Asia”, said Strategy Analytics executive director Neil Mawston.
Xiaomi had bounced back after to successive quarterly dips, reported by Counterpoint, with its Michigan Note phablet and its $150 RedMi 2 the two top selling devices during Q2. He further noted that Apple has increased its coverage with the launch of flagship outlets in China, while Samsung has expanded within small to medium-sized phone retailers in the country.
The research firm said Huawei’s rise was mainly due strong demand for the Honor sub-brand and models such as the latest Ascend Mate and G series. We already knew Apple had a blockbuster Q2 in China as its financials showed, and the fact that it can still compete at this point in the year bodes well for its upcoming devices.

Apple’s shipments in China is estimated to be around 12.2%, with Vivo coming in fourth at 8.1%. China is on track to contribute nearly $60 billion in revenues to Apple’s total revenues this year.
