Five people were injured, according to initial findings, the Dogan news agency reported, adding that ambulances and fire engines were dispatched to the scene.

In one disturbing picture what appears to be a police bus can be seen mangled on the side of the road next to damaged buildings.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility.

In March, 37 people were killed in a bombing near public bus stops in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Turkey is part of the US-led coalition against IS and allows coalition planes to use its air base at Incirlik for raids on Iraq and Syria. The Islamic State group has also been blamed for a series of deadly bombings in Turkey.

The government has warned there will be no let up in the fight until the PKK is defeated and the militants have in turn threatened more attacks.
