According to Howard Stern, James Corden and his “Late Late Show” team tried to get “Carpool Karaoke” off the ground as long as two months.

We’re only a few days away from the Tony Awards and James Corden is getting ready for his hosting duties with some Carpool Karaoke – Broadway style! “I mean, everyone, genuinely”. So without that…’ “And then I thought, I’ve just gotta go, I’ve just gotta jump into it”. I’m talking, like, whos the dudes who did Cotton-Eyed Joe? When she finally agreed to do it and they organised a day for filming, James admits “you just s**t yourself” because he really wanted his idea to work.
This isn’t your buddy’s karaoke night. We were in those sorts of territories.
Watch this wonderful clip and we think you’ll agree that this is the most dramatic edition of Carpool Karaoke yet. Even if this bit is just me singing to Mariah Carey, it’s still on the show. They’re like “I’m not doing that”.
Corden also touched on the origins of his wildly popular “Carpool Karaoke” skits, which feature Corden driving alongside singers like Adele and Justin Bieber belting out hits. “There wasn’t anyone who would do it, and then there was a chance meeting with Mariah Carey, and she said, ‘OK, I’ll do it'”.
Gwen Stefani, George Clooney, Julia Roberts and James Corden blast out some tracks.

“We didn’t think it would turn out the way it has done, and it’s great”, Corden said.
