For the first time ever, tickets for the race, held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the largest racetrack in the world, is sold out.
“I’m happy with my auto”.
“I’ve said from Day 1 that, professionally, the accident didn’t change me”, he said. The whole story is just unbelievable, and whoever wins this year, it’s not only going to be a big deal, it’s going to change his career.
He’s coming off a 29th-place finish in last year’s race, which was a career worst, having crashed just past the halfway point of the race, which gives him further incentive to bounce back in a big way in this year’s Greatest Spectacle In Racing.
Among those eyeing the winner’s bottle of milk Sunday is Graham Rahal, who is trying to win his first Indy 500 on the 30th anniversary of the race won by his father, Bobby.
But as the last time the 33 cars and drivers are on the track prior to the biggest race of the year, teams take that last hour very seriously. I woke up early the next morning and looked in the mirror to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.
Maybe it will be pole-sitter James Hinchcliffe, who nearly died on the track past year after a terrifying wreck during practice at IMS. But after hopping out of his auto and getting a surprise hug from his brother, who had flown in from England, he professed himself ready for Sunday.
There was plenty of traffic as teams took advantage of their first chance to practice in five days, and their final opportunity to tweak anything before the historic race. “Every time I got in traffic, it’s getting better and better”.
In the lead-up to the 100th running of the race this Sunday, The Associated Press interviewed the 27 living race winners on topics ranging from the best race to the greatest tradition.
“I think Honda’s done a good job”, he said. “But there is only going to be one victor, and we’re going to go get it”. “We’re literally shaking hands and taking pictures while standing beside our race cars on the grid”.

“Once you get in that racecar and you’re strapped in, the engine fires up, the visors go down, it’s very calming and peaceful in a sense because it’s just kind of you and the racecar finally, which is what you are really here to do”. “I joke that I’ve been through 14 different IndyCar teams, which is insane and is not what you want to have consistent results, so I’m not happy about that”.
