Leicester City’s best players have told in-demand Jamie Vardy to reject Arsenal, according to a report.
As you are probably already aware, Arsenal activated Jamie Vardy’s £20million release clause last Friday – but not every Gunners fan is exactly pleased. His 24 total goals scored in all matches helped the Foxes on their way to claiming the Premiere League title – an underdog feat to say the least.
“If Jamie goes then one or two others might want to leave as well”, ex-Northern Ireland global Taggart told BBC Radio 5 live.
Roy Hodgson has indicated that he doesn’t want his players distracted by transfer negotiations during the European Championships so Wenger is trying to rush through the Vardy deal quickly before he heads off with his country.
The 29-year-old was chosen as Player of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association and was named in the Professional Footballers’ Association’s team of the year.
The former Halifax and Fleetwood striker has enjoyed a rapid rise to the top of the game and signed a new contract in February as Leicester rewarded him for driving their title bid.
A source has said that Vardy has now undergone the first stage of his medical but Leicester are reluctant to lose him and have made a counter offer in effort to convince him to stay.
Vardy wants to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium and the race is now on to get it done.
“That is what everyone is here to do: concentrate on England and not focus on the speculation outside of that”, Sturridge said in a pitch-side interview following Tuesday’s training session at the Stade de Bourgognes facility.
