The Obama-Sanders call came as the Democratic presidential primary neared its end, with Hillary Clinton poised to clinch the party’s nomination after a spate of Tuesday contests.

She now has 1,812 pledged delegates won via primaries and caucuses and 571 superdelegates – Democratic Party chiefs and elected officials who can support anyone – according to the Associated Press tally. On Tuesday, voters in six states – California, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota and South Dakota – head to the polls, with 694 delegates up for grabs.

“According to the news, we are on the brink of a historic, historic, unprecedented moment”, Clinton told a rally in Long Beach, California, shortly after the AP report.

“We’re going to fight hard for every single vote”, Clinton declared.

It was a victory that arrived Monday – almost eight years to the day after she conceded her first White House campaign to Barack Obama and famously noted her inability to “shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling”.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaks at a rally, Monday, June 6, 2016, in Lynwood, Calif. Clinton has commitments from the number of delegates needed to become the Democratic Party¿s presumptive nominee for president, making her the first woman to top the ticket of a major US political party.

Sacramento for Bernie Sanders co-founder Eric Sunderland said he had not seen the news because he was “too busy winning for Bernie”. A loss could also reinforce the argument of Trump that Clinton is a weakened candidate. Newly minted Republican Donald Trump will have carried out a party coup, while entrenched Democrat Hillary Clinton will have survived one.

However, the White House is signaling that Obama’s endorsement of Clinton could come as early as this week, with Obama officials and Democratic aides determining how and when Obama and Vice President Joe Biden would throw their full support behind their former secretary of state. “She will be dependent on superdelegates who do not vote until July 25 and who can change their minds between now and then”. She promised to go “toe-to-toe” with Vladimir Putin (never mind that she was the architect of the disastrous Russian “reset”), to “stick with our allies” (never mind that she’s the one who threw Poland and the Czech Republic under the bus, withdrawing plans for ballistic missile defense sites after they agreed to stand up to Russia and host them) and to “listen to our generals” (never mind that it was on her watch that the Obama administration withdrew all US forces from Iraq, against the advice of our generals, paving the way for the rise of the Islamic State).

Kasich said the presumptive Republican presidential nominee should apologize for questioning the impartiality of U.S. District Court Judge Gonzalo Curiel. She has the backing of most of the state’s Democratic congressional delegation and party chairmen in all the state’s counties.

Clinton enters the general election boasting one of the most impressive resumes of any recent presidential hopeful.

Both Sanders and Clinton have pledged to help as the island’s government tries to restructure $70 billion worth of public debt that the governor has said is unpayable. She has also survived multiple political crises by drawing on nearly supernatural resilience and is renowned for her mastery of policy.

News is also calling Clinton the presumptive nominee.

To be sure, if our reporting going forward suggests a massive superdelegate defection away from Secretary Clinton to either uncommitted or to Senator Sanders and she were to fall below the 2,383 threshold, we would certainly be reporting that story in depth across all of our platforms. And Republicans believe her foreign policy record, tainted by her dealings with Libya and Russian Federation while secretary of state, could turn into a huge opening for their candidate. Her supporters have said Sanders should look at that as a road map for his own exit from this year’s race.

Sanders kept quiet after Clinton hit her delegate count late Monday. “It’s like an anointment”. With 546 delegates at stake, California is sending by far the most delegates of any state to the Democratic convention next month.

There certainly is no path to the general election any other way. And the second point that I have made is that is absolutely imperative that we defeat Donald TrumpDonald TrumpChairman of Trump’s NY campaign: “He made a stupid comment” Schwarzenegger didn’t vote for Trump in Calif. primary Sanders: “Not sexist to stay in race against Clinton MORE”. There are no Senate contests or state-level races this year in New Jersey.
