Everton have agreed a deal with Premier League rivals Southampton that paves the way for Ronald Koeman to become their new manager.

The Dutchman has been heavily linked with the vacant position in the Toffees’ dugout over the course of the last week or so, and it’s claimed that the Merseyside club have agreed to pay a £5m compensation fee to the Saints for the highly-rated tactician.

Koeman enjoyed an impressive playing career, winning the 1988 European Championship with the Netherlands.

If both Howe and De Boer do reject any Southampton advances it would leave former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini as the clear favourite with the bookmakers, with David Moyes and Andre Villas-Boas, who is seeking a new club after leaving Russia’s Zenit St Petersburg, also considered contenders to replace Koeman.

Koeman has managed Vitesse Arnhem, Ajax, Benfica, PSV, Valencia, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and Southampton.

The Dutchman, who emerged as the hot favourite for the post last week, was the Toffees’ No.1 target for the post, and now the deal is complete the club are set for a busy summer in the transfer market as they bid to bounce back from two disappointing seasons.

In terms of the season ahead Everton can be backed at 14/1 with UniBet to finish in the top-4 for the first time since while they can be backed at 150/1 (same bookmaker) to do a Leicester and stun the big dawgs and win the league. We just have to move on and look to the next man to take us forward again.
