As the first-ever crowned Miss USA to be in the military, it’s safe to say Deshauna Barber is breaking barriers with beauty and brains.
Barber, who entered the contest as Miss District of Columbia, was commissioned as a quartermaster officer in 2011 and is now an Army Reserves logistics commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade in Maryland, noted her pageant biography.
On Sunday, Miss District of Columbia Deshauna Barber was crowned the victor of the 2016 Miss USA pageant after charming the judges with her beauty, intelligence, and strength.
Fan favorite Miss California, Nadia Grace Mejia, had stumbled and paused when answering a question about social and economic inequality.
She said her current Army commitment is two days per month but that there’s great flexibility with the Reserves.
Chelsea Hardin acknowledged that there was no way to correctly answer the question during the beauty pageant.
She works full-time as an IT analyst for the U.S. Department of Commerce, it said.
Miss Hawaii, who came in second Sunday night, punted during the question-and-answer segment when asked who she would vote for among the likely presidential candidates, Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton.
The 20-year-old model is the daughter of 1990s one-hit-wonder singer Gerardo, known for “Rico Suave”.
