The Wright County Sheriff’s Office reported over the weekend that two of the main suspects were apprehended near the Canadian border, in International Falls.
On Wednesday, Clough was found unresponsive in Crow Springs County Park in rural Wright County.
Clough, of Maple Lake, spent days in critical condition at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale, after she was found injured after suffering multiple gunshot wounds in the early morning hours on June 1. The third suspect, identified as 26-year-old Edward Zelko of Buffalo, was arrested during a traffic stop. Officials have arrested the people the said suspects. Clough was transported to North Memorial Hospital.
Authorities have not revealed a motive in the killing but did say she knew at least two of the defendants before the deadly encounter: Justin M. Jensen, 28, of Maple Lake, and Natasha L. Brandenburger, 33, of Buffalo.
The Koochiching County Sheriff’s Office reported it was assisted by the International Falls Police Department, Beltrami County SWAT, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Lake of the Woods County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota State Patrol and U.S. Border Patrol.
According to the Duluth News Tribune, the charges being considered by prosecutors include assault with a deadly weapon, drug possession, aiding an offender, and obstructing the legal process.
The Wright County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case for potential charges and anticipates bringing the defendants to court on Wednesday.
Jensen and Brandenburger have not officially been named as suspects. According to WJON, the police are still seeking a vehicle that is connected to the case, a white/cream 2008 Honda Accord with Minnesota license plates that read 307-LCX.
