The veteran rockers teamed up before Game 4 as Hammett delivered the national anthem’s main melody and Hetfield added reinforcement for a very unique version of “The Star-Spangled Banner”.
The game is taking place at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., as the hometown Sharks square off against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Both guitars used during the show were signed by the members of the band and displayed on the concourse during the game.
Hetfield was also in attendance when San Jose beat St. Louis 5-2 to win game six of their Western Conference Final series, securing the franchise first Stanley Cup Final appearance in the process. Hetfield and Hammett toured the Sharks’ dressing room to meet the team before the game, which the Penguins won 3-1. The band dropped the ceremonial opening puck, helped with the lineup announcement and were presented with custom Metallica Sharks jerseys.

As you can see above, it’s a very Metallica rendition, replete with palm-muted chugs and wah-heavy leads, and what’s more, James and Kirk are auctioning off the ESP guitars they played that night for charity.
