One Direction release first single post Malik’s exit
“All my life/ You stood by me/When no one else was ever behind me/All these lights/They can’t blind me/ With your love, nobody can drag me down”, the chorus of the new track goes. The band, on the other hand, took a little long to release their first single after departure of their 23-year old member Zayn Malik.

One Direction may have proven they’re going to be even more successful without former member Zayn Malik. Check our our new single! Cowell sent a message on Twitter to congratulate Malik on his new solo record deal with RCA Records.
The song is called “Drag Me Down”, and you should probably listen to it. Liam really needs you to listen to it.
.
Some have speculated that the surprise 1D release was intended to steal their former bandmate’s thunder. One Direction’s 2014 “Where We Are” world tour, which also played to sold-out stadiums, was the highest-grossing tour of 2014, with sales totaling more than $290 million, according to Billboard. Cowell, who is one of the persons responsible for the popularity of One Direction, said he believes the company is ideal for Malik’s solo path in the music industry, the report relays.
He quit the boy band in March saying he wanted to be a “normal 22-year-old”. Louis and Niall also tweeted about the song’s release.
Feigning a devastated voice, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan’s bandmate can be heard declaring: “Don’t remind us!” He, then, told, “I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart”.
Horan and Tomlinson were quick to follow suit, tweeting their supporters about how proud they were of the single. “They are excited about working with him and I am sure whatever they release together will be special”.
