The Uruguayan national football team lost their Copa America 2016 opener against Mexico 3-1 in a match which saw a national anthem blunder.

The Uruguay team’s afternoon ended and started poorly too, as instead of their national anthem being played, the Chilean National Anthem was blasted off the speakers during the opening ceremony of the match.
Well, a lot of them did. With so much momentum headed into the game against Uruguay, it’s easy to see how Mexico fans filled 95% University of Phoenix Stadium.
The organisers apologised to the “people of Uruguay” and blamed “human error” for the mistake and said they will ensure the error is not repeated again, reports the BBC on Monday.
Unlike in 2012, when North Korean officials and athletes walked out when South Korea’s flag was raised. “We have to try to play well in that game, because if we lose we are out of the Cup”, he said.
Uruguay’s only chance of the first half came when Edinson Cavani was put through on goal on the hour hour mark by a pass from Nicolas Lodeiro, but Mexico keeper Alfredo Talavera was out quickly and smothered the PSG forward’s shot.
Mexico jumped on top in the fourth minute when Uruguay defender Alvaro Pereira scored an own goal. But 37-year-old Marquez’s emphatic strike into the roof of the net on 85 minutes fired Mexico 2-1 up before Herrera added a third in injury time to complete a memorable victory for “El Tri”. Hector Herrera padded Mexico’s lead in the second minute of second-half stoppage time.

Incensed Uruguayans surrounded the referee after the game and, according to O so rio, Gimenez made his feelings known to him as he left the field. With just a minute before the first-half ended, Vecino was booked with a red card and sent off. The Mexican team will face Jamaica on Thursday, June 9, 9:00 p.m. ET, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
