The bicyclists were struck by an oncoming pickup truck as they rode along Westnedge.

It is unclear if the driver was arrested at this time.

Several agencies were searching for the pickup when the first report of the crash came in just after 6:30 p.m., he said.

A spokeswoman for Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo confirmed to ABC News that at least two patients were taken there, but there was no immediate word on their condition. According to Jeffrey S. Getting, the prosecuting attorney for Kalamazoo County, the suspect has been described as a 50-year-old man from Western Michigan.

Authorities say they were searching for the driver of a blue pickup truck in the minutes before he plowed into a group of adults bicycling near a western MI park.

Markus Eberhard said he was leaving Markin Glen Park after fishing when someone shouted at him to watch out. Getting says his office could make a charging decision by Thursday.

Cooper Township Fire Chief Terry Emig tells WZZM-TV Tuesday night at least five of the people struck have died.

“I saw a bunch of bikes hit the front of his truck and a couple of them flew”, Eberhard said.

Cops apprehended a driver fleeing the crash site near Cooper Township about six miles north of Kalamazoo Tuesday evening.

Names of the driver and victims were not released as police were still notifying families late Tuesday.
