Bernie Sanders vows to stay in Democratic nomination race

After her win in New Jersey, Clinton had 2,469 delegates to Sanders’ 1,637.

In addition, at Senator Sanders’ request, the President and Senator Sanders will meet at the White House on Thursday to continue their conversation about the significant issues at stake in this election that matter most to America’s working families.

“The president congratulated Secretary Clinton for securing the delegates necessary to clinch the Democratic nomination for president”, Earnest said.

Sanders by all accounts has conducted an extraordinary grassroots campaign.

“Thanks to you, we’ve reached a milestone”, she told cheering supporters at a rally in NY. After one senator rescinded his endorsement and House Speaker Paul Ryan called the comments “racist”, Trump sought to calm worries with a rare, scripted victory speech. It belongs to generations of women and men who struggled and sacrificed and made this moment possible. But she held out an olive branch to him, and his supporters. She will notch wins in the New Jersey, South Dakota and New Mexico Democratic primaries, according to CNN projections, adding a slew of delegates to her column. Clinton’s speech earlier in Brooklyn, New York had the air of a coronation, and early returns from the California polls were not looking good. There are no more states and little money, the staffer said. Clearly delighted, she stood with her arms outstretched on stage, savoring the adulation.

Sanders, who plans to fly home to Vermont on Wednesday, concluded his remarks Tuesday night with a call to action.

Waiting in the wings is President Barack Obama, who is said to be eager to endorse Clinton once Tuesday’s vote is in the rearview mirror.

“He’s not just trying to build a wall between America and Mexico”, she said.

She hit Trump hard for his recent attacks on a judge with Mexican ancestry along with mocking a disabled reporter and “calling women pigs”.

“He wants to win by stoking fears and rubbing salt in wounds”, Clinton said.

Both Clinton and Trump made overtures toward an energized and passionate pool of voters. Standing before a flag-waving crowd in Brooklyn, the former secretary of state soaked up the cheers and beamed.

Sanders picked up a win in North Dakota, where a handful of delegates were up for grabs.

Sanders pledged anew late Tuesday to “continue the fight” all the way to the Philadelphia convention.

California had not been called by the time Sanders spoke. A top campaign official would neither confirm nor deny the report to CNN. But he still questioned whether he was receiving fair treatment in the case involving the now-defunct Trump University.

His accusation that the judge is biased because of his ethnicity has horrified senior GOP leaders who recently reluctantly endorsed him. By early Wednesday morning, Clinton had been declared the victor in New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota. Her victories Tuesday just widen her lead.

In a speech at his Westchester, New York, golf course, Trump said he understands he bears “the responsibility of carrying the mantle and I will never ever let you down”.

He said campaigning across California “has been one of the most moving moments of my life”.

But that changed recently, according to Clinton aides, as the former first lady moved closer to victory and began to reflect more on her mother.

The triumph came nearly eight years to the day since Clinton’s first bid for the Oval Office bid was spectacularly thwarted by a charismatic young senator called Barack Obama.

Sanders’ appearance after polls close in California will be closely watched for signs of his intentions.

Sanders has his political legacy and future career to consider, as well as what may turn out to be the last rites of his presidential bid. Eight years later, Blush says she is “completely blown away with excitement” – and hopes Sanders and his supporters will rally behind Clinton. “It’s the first time in our nation’s history that a woman will be a major party’s nominee”.

Trump, speaking before a teleprompter that the off-the-cuff candidate has largely eschewed to this point in the campaign, used the speech to attack Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, as a corrupt leader of Washington’s political establishment. That count includes both pledged delegates and superdelegates.
