The Super Bowl MVP was given a deadline to sign by Tuesday night, and when it passed the team rescinded a six-year, nine-figure offer.
But ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that “no deal is in sight” for the franchise-tagged superstar.
On a positive note, as Denver’s “exclusive rights” franchise player, Miller is not allowed to negotiate and can not receive any offers from any team that is not located here in the Mile High City.
As of writing, the Broncos have the highest cap space next offseason with over $65 million to spend, money that they are going to try to throw at Miller to lock him into a long-term deal. The camp is mandatory for all players under contract.
Safe to say, it’s in everyone’s best interests to get a long-term deal worked out before July 15.
He has played five seasons with the Broncos, making the Pro Bowl four times. Regardless, Miller should help make the Broncos defense one of the top in the league yet again in 2016.
This is a stark contrast to what Miller himself told reporters not two days ago when he said there has been a lot of progress made on a potential new deal.
He’s already guaranteed more than $14 million next year on a one-year contract.
