“One person can make a difference and I’m just proud of her that she wants to try to make that difference”, said Mary Beth McIntyre.
In Ellen’s campaign, she addressed the nation as a whole and said: “As you know I’m a big fan of your handsome, great, wonderful Great Barrier Reef, which is home to my favourite fish, Dory”.
What follows next is a panic-stricken Dory feeding Nemo and Marlin with traces of her past; “Gem of Baltic”, is what she appears to remember about her parents, which is then decoded by the young clown fish as the California bay.
In the clip, the 58-year-old comedian says: ‘It’s critical that we protect this awesome place, and we’d like your help’.
“There were a few organisations involved and we were trying to put pressure on her, in a really positive way, as she is already a huge animal advocate and within a few days she made an announcement which was fantastic”.
The plight of the reef has been a major concern lately, with environmentalists calling for people to take action on climate change to stop naturally occurring coral bleaching and help return the reef to its former glory.
THE Great Barrier Reef is shaping as a key election battleground for the major parties.
Disney says raising awareness of the reef’s decline will ensure its beauty and diversity lives on for future generations.
Elsewhere, the website explains: ‘the Great Barrier Reef is under threat from bleaching, storm damage, poor water quality and climate change’.

To achieve this, they are working alongside not-for-profit organisation Greenfleet to restore ecosystems along the Queensland coast.
