Clinton Clinches Democratic Nomination – With and Without California Vote

Actor Mark Ruffalo, who has been a prominent supporter of the Vermont senator, tweeted congratulations to Clinton and her supporters on Wednesday and said it was time to focus on pushing for progressive values.

As the first lady candidate of any major American political party to the USA presidency, she is savouring the moment as much as she savoured the first time she became First Lady in the White House almost a quarter century ago. He and the president are due to meet, at the senator’s request, tomorrow. Even before Tuesday’s primaries, the Associated Press had counted enough solid delegates, committed and “super”, to declare Hillary Clinton the putative nominee.

“It’s a breakthrough, and I think that whether you’re voting for Trump or you’re voting for her or whoever, you ought to take pride”.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton arrives onstage to deliver her victory speech.

While an explicit endorsement may not be forthcoming, the fundraising stops in NY do provide Obama with an opportunity to address donors just one day after Clinton clinched the nomination.

“MoveOn members believe, as we have long advocated, that the nomination should go to the victor of the majority of pledged delegates, and that undemocratic superdelegates should not overturn the will of the voters”, MoveOn Political Action’s Executive Director, Ilya Sheyman, said in the statement.

“Despite a night of disappointing losses, Bernie Sanders vowed Tuesday night to continue his campaign and to take his fight all the way to the convention in Philadelphia”.

President Barack Obama put off his expected endorsement of Hillary Clinton as his successor during a visit Wednesday to New York City, instead praising the primary performances of his former secretary of state and her rival Bernie Sanders.

Sanders would need 517 superdelegates to win the nomination.

“I really believe a lot of Senator Sanders’ supporters will join us in making sure Donald Trump doesn’t get anywhere near the White House”, Clinton declared.

Hopes flickered among some anti-Trump Republicans that there will be a revolt against him when delegates convene to nominate him formally in Cleveland between July 18-21. “I think his conversation with the president will be about unifying the party”.

“Next Tuesday we continue the fight”, Sanders told a large crowd of cheering supporters gathered in Santa Monica.
