A busy worldwide schedule awaits the Indian team in the coming home season with 13 Test matches, eight One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals pencilled in by the BCCI.
In a press release, the BCCI president Anurag Thakur said, “I welcome the new Test venues hosting this prestigious format of cricket and their arrival will take Test match cricket, to every corner of the country”. Eden Gardens will host the day-night Test against New Zealand.
New Zealand will play three tests and five ODIs, and England will play five tests, three ODIs, and three T20s.
India have generally played their five-day cricket in cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore, but will reach out to other areas over the next 12 months. The ODIs will be played in Pune, Cuttack and Kolkata.
Set at the foot of the Himalayas, the picturesque Dharamsala will host its first Test when Australia arrive in February to play four Tests in India.
Australia will tour India in February 2017 to play four Test matches hosted by Bengaluru, Dharamsala, Ranchi and Pune.
Bangladesh are slated to play a one-off Test match which will be played at Hyderabad. In September, India’s domestic season will be launched with the first-even instance of pink-ball cricket being played in the country when the Duleep Trophy is held under lights. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be contested at Bangalore, Dharamsala, Ranchi and Pune.
The matches will be held at the stipulated stadiums only if the guidelines laid down by the BCCI are fulfilled.
There will be 918 domestic matches organised across competitions, including the Ranji Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Deodhar Trophy, the Irani Cup, women’s cricket matches and age-group matches.
“The Indian Cricket Board has yet to finalise the date, but we know for sure that the Test match will take place during the current cricketing season”.
